Union Christian College, Aluva, established in 1921, is a pioneering ecumenical initiative in higher education in central Kerala. Founded by four visionary alumni of Madras Christian College – Shri K.C. Chacko, Shri A.M. Varki, Shri C.P. Mathew, and Shri V.M. Ittyerah – the college was conceived as a centre of learning rooted in integrity, heritage, and Christian values. The college, situated on a serene 42-acre green campus along the river Periyar is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University and is just 12 km from Cochin International Airport. With 18 academic departments, nearly 2700 students, and 160 faculty members, the college is renowned for academic excellence, research strength, and a vibrant student community. The college is governed by an ecumenical board of members of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Church of South India, and the Inter Church Fellowship (ICF) of the college. Guided by its mission to nurture intellectually competent, morally grounded, and spiritually inspired individuals, Union Christian College has consistently promoted national service, cultural enrichment, and international engagement. The institution earned an A++ Grade with a CGPA of 3.53 in its fifth cycle of NAAC accreditation (2024), placing it among the top-tier higher education institutions in India.

Mahatma Gandhi, during his visit on March 18, 1925, described the campus as “delighted with the ideal situation” — words recorded in the college’s visitors’ diary. The mango tree planted by him still stands in front of the administrative block as a living symbol of his ideals.
Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, in 1922, praised the college for reflecting the spirit of his own Shantiniketan.
